Giving Tuesday
Food Insecurity disproportionately affects seniors and People with Disabilities because they are often at a greater risk of unemployment, receive lower-paying salaries, struggle with health and mobility challenges, and are more likely to encounter transportation obstacles to access food pantries.
The end of federal pandemic aid for non-profits, soaring food prices, and a spike in food insecurity have made it difficult to meet the demands of our growing hungry residents. We need your support to help raise at least $5,000 to feed 10 seniors in need free groceries home-delivered via our Long Beach Food Pantry Delivery program. These funds will cover the yearly delivery required to get free groceries to our most vulnerable residents who cannot access our 11 food pantry locations to receive food.
WHY SUPPORT LONG BEACH FOOD PANTRY DELIVERY?
Long Beach Food Pantry Delivery provides seniors and Persons with Disabilities (mental and physical) free weekly fresh and packaged groceries home-delivered for a $10 delivery fee. They also receive weekly recipes; nutritional information; a needs analysis; and free benefit enrollment services for Calfresh, Medical, and General Relief, as well as links to housing services. This program is recognized by The Community In Action Guide as an evidence-based intervention to reduce malnutrition, increase energy intake, and improve health among older adults. The service area includes the cities of Carson, Lomita, Wilmington, Signal Hill, and more (within a 10-mile radius of 90813).
EVERY DAY WE RECEIVE HEART-BREAKING PLEAS FOR HELP LIKE THESE:
“I'm 63 disabled with 2 recent hip replacements, no money, no transportation, I have cancer fibromyalgia asthma, and mental health issues. I'm hungry, three of my disks are messed up in my back. Please help me I'm so hungry.”
“I am 82, and receive SSI $561 a month. I am single and housing helps a little with rent. I have a food card, but it is not enough to survive. I live alone, am I qualified to receive free food for me as a diabetic?”
“I’m a 70-year-old veteran and trying to get a part-time job. I can’t walk or stand, and I use pull-ups. I'm barely surviving paycheck to paycheck, my rent has increased twice this year, and I can no longer afford to live in my home.. I have no savings, and no family, and I can’t afford a nursing center. I’m trying to get on the VASH program but have to be homeless to qualify."
“I have been homeless too long and hungry, it's breaking me!"
“I’m a 42-year-old new mom, with Cognitive Heart Failure and I’m homeless. I have tried to access housing, but it was stalled due to a lack of income. Please can you help me and my baby?”
This holiday season, please help us support our most vulnerable residents by ensuring everyone in our community has access to food. Even a small tax-deductible $20 donation will make a significant impact.
Join us this Giving Tuesday to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.
Thank you for supporting our hungry residents in need which will also improve the Long Beach, CA community!
