Now here’s the good news - California Benefits Support, local non-profit established in October 2024, provides free vital financial assistance and healthcare support to low-income and under-served community members suffering with chronic illness.
Comprehensive Support for those with Chronic Illnesses
California Benefits Support (CBS) provides holistic support to those in need, ensuring no one must face chronic illness alone. There friendly English and Spanish speaking enrollment experts maintain a dedicated focus on uplifting and empowering Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) including minority community member members who face unique health and systemic challenges.
Services include:
Financial assistance to cover cost of lifesaving treatments. This ensures equitable support for those in dire need. This includes assistance with outpatient office visit co-pays, health insurance premiums, and prescription medication costs.
Free enrollment assistance for Medi-Cal, as well as CoveredCA, and other subsidized options. Referral services are available for client’s needing assistance with Medicare, dental services, mental health counseling, and social services.
Financial assistance for co-payment costs and out of pocket expenses for necessary medications.
Help navigating the healthcare system to include guidance to find and utilize suitable insurance plans and help to reduce the financial burden of healthcare.
Friendly English and Spanish speaking enrollment support assistance.
Coverage of prescription medication and medical treatment costs can range from 40% of costs, and up to 80% or more.

Emily receives a disability benefit due to her diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus and other multiple chronic illnesses. She currently attends law school full-time and was distressed after being notified that these costs were substantially increasing. Emily applied to CBS for help and, after approval, received the CBS Healthcare Assistance Program for 12 months to cover most of her monthly premium and prescription costs.

CBS Health Eligibility:
To be eligible for these free life-improving services, participants must meet the following criteria:
Have a chronic illness
Meet income requirements at 100% to 250% of the Federal Poverty Level
Reside in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County
