CalFresh Benefits Keep Giving

Updated: Dec 14, 2022

Are you one of the millions of Californians battling to eat nutritious food, feed your family, or simply go without because you can’t afford it, especially in this current economic environment? CalFresh may be the solution for you with benefits that keep giving by providing you with monthly dollars to buy fresh groceries, and seeds or plants to grow your own food at home; the option to purchase restaurant or readymade meals for some; as well as a number of other benefits. You'll also receive additional payments via Emergency Allotments when times are tough for all. Furthermore, Help Me Help You offers free CalFresh enrollment assistance for all in need to help end your food insecurity crisis. Learn how CalFresh benefits keep giving.

CalFresh is a supplemental food program to help qualifying low-income individuals and families get the food they need to stay healthy. It is California’s version of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formally known as Food Stamps. The CalFresh Benefit provides dollars via the Golden State Advantage EBT debit card to purchase groceries and fresh produce, online and in-store at participating grocery stores (including Albertsons, Vons, Safeway, Walmart, Aldi, and Amazon) and farmers’ markets. Some participating stores offer free home delivery. You can also use your EBT card to purchase seeds and plants to grow your own food of your choice and to receive discounts.

Qualifying for a CalFresh EBT debit card means you would also qualify for a number of other beneficial services including:

  • National School Lunch Program for FREE/reduced prices of nutritious school meals and other services for school children

  • Health & Wellness Services

  • Fee Waivers for College Apps, Admissions Tests

  • Discounted utility services, transportation, and more.

The USDA recognizes there are public health emergency or inflation factors affecting your purchasing power and responds by providing CalFresh recipients with additional Emergency Allotment (EA) dollars to buy groceries. These payments are automatically added to your CalFresh EBT card in the middle of the following month. For example, the November 2022 EA additional payments of $95 will be available on December 18, 2022.

The California Restaurant Meals Program allows eligible homeless, disabled, and elderly (at least 60 years old) CalFresh benefit recipients to use their CalFresh EBT card to purchase hot or prepared food from participating restaurants including Everytable, Wingstop, Subway, Pizza Hut, El Pollo Loco, Fat burger, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and many more. To access this part of the benefit you must meet one of the following conditions:

  • Homeless

  • Elderly - at least 60 years or older and your spouse (husband, wife, common-law husband, common-law wife)

  • Disabled and your spouse (husband, wife, common-law husband, common-law wife) - Receiving Social Security Disability Benefits; Railroad Retirement Benefit Annuities; or Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI).

Help Me Help You (HMHY) provides free Calfresh enrollment as well as access to other free life-improving services via our multi-lingual (English and Spanish speaking) Benefits Access Support experts. This free service was life-changing for Gladys, a Long Beach senior; living in a tent; unable to prepare or access meals; and suffering from anxiety, depression, and food insecurity. Fortunately, HMHY Benefits Access Support experts completed a needs analysis for Glady's, applied for benefits, and within two days gained approval for CalFresh - including Restaurant Meals. Glady's was also approved for General Relief payments, and Medicaid, and linked to housing services. "I was unable to enroll in CalFresh alone and wasn't aware of all the other benefits I was entitled to...HMHY has improved my life with access to readymade meals and benefits for a better future. Thank your HMHY for changing my life and giving me hope", said Glady's. To check your eligibility or enroll in CalFresh contact our Benefits Access Support experts at 562 612 5001 or email
